Fasting, prayer, pilgrimage, and jihad, but the root of its tools: thought, shortening of hope, reviewing repentance and purity, removing heat from the heart, the necessity of humility, building the heart with piety, perpetuating sadness, and a great deal of concern with what is contained in it.
