.This book is Coelho's early work, and tells the story of a special spiritual quest on the Way of St. Jacob in Spain

The narrator sets out on a long walk in search of his sword, which he lost the moment it was presented to him. In order to retrieve it, the teacher required him to make a pilgrimage on an old road, which was crossed by medieval pilgrims and was considered one of the most important religious shrines in the West. On the way, the guide, Trus, instructs the narrator, Paulo, on the exercises and rituals of "Ram" (an ancient spiritual association), which are simple practices that help a person discover a path of their own and provide him with energy and courage, deepening his personal intuition that connects him to the truth

In his journey, the narrator is exposed to many spiritual experiences, represented by the new meanings of love, piety, death, and pain. And most importantly of all, it turns out that reaching the stage of reconciliation with oneself and radiance is not elitist, and is not restricted to the chosen people, but is also available to every person who walks on his own path, as the narrator walked on the path of St. Jacob, because the supernatural is on the path of ordinary people. What is important is the path itself, our discovery of ourselves through travel, adventure, and quest. In the face of this discovery, the goal becomes secondary. The narrator, having walked the path in order to discover the secret of his sword, discovers that secret but does not reveal it. The secret is what is discovered, not revealed.

From which he set out to other stations, "Pilgrim Compostela" is considered the most important station in Coelho's life. It is the beginning of the "good effort" that will push Coelho to win the battles of high literature.
