Afghanistan in the 1970s: Amir, a twelve-year-old boy, desperately wants to win the local kite competition, and his loyal friend Hassan promises to help him. But what happened to Hassan that afternoon will destroy their lives... After the Soviet invasion and Amir and his father having to flee to the USA, Amir realizes that he must return one day, finding the one thing his new world cannot offer him penance.
