A building given by a Russian aristocratic immigrant to his sweetheart.

In the building are the contradictions and tensions of Istanbul society: immigrants, minorities, marginalized people, and lunatics: a university professor; twins who run a barber shop; a pious man with his daughter-in-law and grandchildren; a woman obsessed with cleanliness and her drooling daughter; and "The Blue Mistress"...

But the novel "Palace of Candy" is, above all, a novel about social injustice, the fear of losing identity, the domination of fate over the fates of the characters, and the game of love that bewildered souls doom to death.
